Stereopony Song of the Week, Week 20

cherry my…

The song “cherry my…” first appears on Stereopony’s single Hanbunko.

“cherry my…” is a song that revolves around the theme of cherry blossoms and the way it is connected to people’s lives and emotions. With the romantic setting of the blooming cherry petals and the Spring in full bloom many things take place in Japan. Graduation and new admissions to courses start at this time, and it is a beginning for a lot of things as we come across new people and places. So, a girl’s emotions are like cherry blossoms too.

Normal life goes on for all of us — routines are followed untill the time we realize that as we go donwhill there’s a thudding in our hearts. What would seem like a never ending school year, suddenly you realize that the year only has 10 days left! At graduation, you know that things have changed yet friendships and memories that never change are celebrated as the cherry blooms. Even as we leave behind the place that we’ve spent what seems like a lifetime, we feel a little sad yet we know that our dreams like ahead.

In the crowd of people that’s growing darker around us there is perhaps a person somewhere that you can see clearly, shining bright with a smile. At that moment you miss that person and you’d only want to meet that person. Using the excuse of going to a “Hanami” or cherry blossom viewing, it could be a chance to confess love. But as unpredictable life can be, the feelings are not expressed and friends remain friends only exchanging a letter or two.

So, pretending that we never had any feelings, we try to go ahead with our lives. Knowing that person has gone to a faraway place and there’s no point in repenting. Seeming not to reach that person , we forget the way the person spoke or their voice sounded but the feelings that you had can never be forgotten.

Friends will always smile for you and it’s something that you can’t miss because you have it now but if in time, there’s a chance to meet that special person again, it would be a great chance like meeting a better version of yourself. With that, there’s hope to meet and that until then you will be waiting for that person to come to you. Just like Spring would come again next year, so will the special person return!

The song, written and composed by AIMI, stems from unrequited high school love that is very strong. Connected very strongly with the Japanese customs and seasons and Stereopony’s flower symbols, this song is about an uncertain first love that goes from friendship to love. As strongly as love blooms, it also has to tendency to wither. Even then being hopeful for a certain future chance to rekindle this love is a very hopeful end. Musically, this song is medium to fast paced as the theme progresses. The guitar and drum piece at the start is a very different style for Stereopony with some English words. A song about love and growing up and dealing with love that is a little difficult.

So, Enjoy the twentieth Stereopony Song of the Week, “cherry my…” as Japan just finished the Golden Week — when all the cherry blossom bloom and it creates a very magical weather.
