Draft King Biography

After the regrettable disbandment of Stereopony, Nohana (Bass) and Shiho (Drums) formed the band Draft King alongside mao (guitar), hiddy (guitar/vocals), and erica (vocals). Beginning activities quickly after the dissolution of Stereopony, Draft King performed in many live venues and slowly began building a following. They were chosen to be serialized in Shibuya eggman’s free paper, a serialization which has continued to this day. On September 2nd, 2013, Nohana announced on her blog that due to the popularity of their live videos, they would be filming a PV for Abracadabra, a fan favorite and live staple song. And in a little less than a year, they were able to play their first one man live at Shibuya eggman on August 10, 2013. It was also announced that two songs from Draft King would appear on GIRLS ROCK #SURF / V.A. and be the first time their global fans would be able to enjoy their music. The CD is set for a release date of September 25th, 2013. Shortly afterwards in November 21st, 2013, hiddy announced that after their Shibuya-O west live, she would be leaving Draft King to pursue a solo career.

Draft King continued to expand their activities in 2014. Despite the setback of a lost member, Draft King announced their second one man live only months after their first. The live was held on March 28, 2014 in Shibuya CLUB QUATTRO a live house with a significantly higher capacity than they had for their first one man live. Keeping their momentum, their first single “Just say u.r.?” went on sale in Tower Records stores throughout the whole country on June 25, 2014. In November they announced they had signed a contract with Sun Music, one of Japan’s largest and oldest talent agencies. They became the first girls’ band to sign with the agency. Holding their next one man live in December, they announced their first release under the agency. Draft King announced they would be covering Kaientai’s “Okuru Kotoba”. Draft King continued their staple live activities and took their new release on tour in 2015.

After continuing their live activities and increasing both TV and radio appearances, Draft King announced the release of their next single “This is me” written by the vocalist erica. Even more surprisingly, they announced a performance at Otakon in the United States. There they participated in a fan meet with their American fans and held their first overseas performance. After returning to Japan they continued their live activities and announced 5 consecutive project live each month. In June it was announced that the vocalist erica would be withdrawing from the band. Alongside this announcement a one man live was decided which would be erica’s last live with Draft King. Losing no time, they announced their next live in September which would feature guest vocalists from various bands. Although they were hit with a speed bump, Draft King continues without signs of slowing down. Their new vocalist has yet to be decided.
