Stereopony Song of the Week, Week 33

Wanting to live on the hill of Happiness.

“Shiawase no Oka de Kurashitai” first appeared in Stereopony’s first album Hydrangea ga Saiteiru.

This song is about a childhood dream. Wanting to live on a mountain and spend one’s days happily is a dream that seems to have faded into memory. There is an understanding that it’s a dream and that reality is something else entirely. But, there is always a changing of seasons, alluding to an eventual passing of grief. Eventually one day, we are sure to find that place from our dreams; even if the present is painful to live in, it’s perfectly alright to bear with it. It makes living for that dream so much easier, if you continue to have faith in that long lost time.

The lyrics and the music of this song are both written by AIMI. Her simplistic but deep style of writing brings out the ever-present fact that the worlds of simple dreams and reality are very different, but also present optimism and hope because these simple dreams will always be with us. “Holding onto those little pieces of our childhood memories, a place under the blue sky with the warm sun overhead.” AIMI’s use of simple metaphors for a very simple life are very reminiscent of romantic poetry where life of the modern world leaves the listener with a desire to go back to the natural beauty of the villages. Despite the slow and slight melancholy sound of the guitar, the song is an uplifting one, which is reflected in the last line which happens to be the title.

So, enjoy the thirty-third Stereopony Song of the Week as you look back and cherish your childhood dreams to carry you forward.
