Stereopony Song of the Week, Week 16

My Mistake

The song “My Mistake” first appeared in Stereopony’s first album, Hydrangea ga Saiteiru

A love that seems to be ending, “My Mistake” is a song that talks about the distance between people and what holds them back from love. People in the modern world are as close as they are apart — they can take a train to reach each other or they could just ignore the phone call they were to receive.

The story is from the point of the person who has moved away from their lover. They wait at the train station because the train is missed and it is a metaphor for a love that is beyond reach and something new has to take it’s place. Waiting there, the person thinks that it is their own mistake letting go of a love because they cannot convey their thoughts. Even though the person boards the train, they are not sure if their thoughts would reach their lover when they meet. Even being a little rude is alright because even though it’s impossible to forget, a love that is lost once is lost forever. The person is under so much pressure that they ask their love to forget them if they don’t ever have a chance to meet up. They are afraid to face the reality and so they would take a short cut out.

Even though the speaker is running away from the truth, it is the only way they seem to see as there is no love at all in their heart now. They would rather wait for it to be reborn with time.

Musically, the song has a an intense feel as the lyrics do. With a strong start and then the first verse slow but intense.

So, enjoy the sixteenth Stereopony Song of the Week — “My Mistake!”
