Stereopony Song of the Week, Week 15

VIVA La Viva LA

The song “Viva La Viva La” first appeared in Stereopony’s third album More! More!! More!!!

“Viva La Viva La” is a song that sets the mood almost immediately on dance mode. A song that is full of a strong identity that shakes up the system and a perception that works to make everyday things, something like a party night. The lyrics have been written by NOHANA and the music is by AIMI. The world “viva” means live in Spanish. So, the song is about taking life by the horns and living it the best you can as you have fun.

Every day and every night is a party where everyone joins in as they shout. She asks if you can look at things in a different perspective — like making the world ring with the strike of her finger. The world is a free playground and women do make good choices that will be good for them and it will be perfect. And almost on a tangent, the lyrics say “I love chicken. So adding all that up, how much is 1+1?”

The crowds in Shibuya look like beach waves and the sun is a disco ball. with glaring (staring) we look at the world. We greet our friends that we pass with a wink and a hi-five because tonight is a party night. NOHANA also says a girl’s mind is waterproof pop.

NOHANA’s writing style is very different from the usual as she is very tangential yet she stays on topic. A random line in the song adds a lot of spunk to the song like “I love chicken or melon” randomly in the lyrics. A song that declares women’s freedom of choice and that their time is now. They also add this echo lyric which is “papipupeponi-” that is the Japanese alphabet that ends with a twist that Stereopony’s freedom and women’s freedom is as basic as the alphabet and a simple bit of arithmetic.

Musically, this song is a joyride. It has the perfect balance of loud and fun lyrics with the spunk of style. Looking at life through the eyes of a glamorous diva is where this song is. The guitar is actually very cleverly used, with drumming literally pumping through the veins as they shout “Ichi Tasu Ichi wa…” (one plus one is equal to…). A song full of energy and driving force.

So enjoy the fifteenth Stereopony Song of the Week, “Viva La Viva La!” They recently played it at their Sakura-Con 2012 show and it was amazing literately, getting the crowd jumping as they rocked to this track! Go Stereopony! Viva La Viva La!
