Stereopony Song of the Week, Week 13

Heart Breaking Love Story

The song “Amaryllis” first appears in Stereopony’s third album More! More!! More!!!

The title of the song says a lot about the song. An amaryllis is a bright red flower that has Greek mythology attached to it. Amaryllis was the name of a nymph who was in love with Alteo, a shepherd who was very strong and handsome. She wanted to give him his heart’s desire — a flower that had never been created before. So she sought out the Oracle of Delphi and with the advice she received, she went to the shepherd’s door each night for 30 nights and pierced her heart with a golden arrow. The shepherd did not open the door until the thirtieth night. When he did, he found a beautiful red flower blooming from the blood that Amaryllis had shed and so it was named after her. This song is the modern take on the story from both sides.

Someone who feigns ignorance to a passionate love that is given to them; someone who cannot earlier understand that it is not with the flip of a coin that you can’t judge weather life would be good or bad.

Fragments of a map give you clues but even then you have to work on it to find out the location of the treasure. A life journey that is just a fragment of thought, is filled with a feeling that can only be calmed with the wideness of the sea or the air. Love seems to be a withered Amaryllis flower.

One may leave their small towns but destiny doesn’t change everything so quickly.

So can anyone continue ignoring such strong feelings? Like when you feel a song enter your listening sphere but it doesn’t go away and it’s there like a lullaby.
The last line of the song turns the meaning into a very painful memory — “it’s because we can never go back to that time…”

A song very beautifully written with perfect imagery and heartbreaking lyrics. Probably drawn from some deep experience, AIMI does justice to the imagery she used, expressing one-sided love aptly. The song is much deeper than it seems when you listen to it the first time. It grows on you. The drumming at the end of the song has a strong resemblance to heartbeats. The guitar and bass work on the song is very deep and has a reflective feel.

So, enjoy the thirteenth Stereopony Song of the Week, “Amaryllis,” a heartbreaking love story.
